New Positive Labels for Your Golf Clubs

PTR Labels is officially live and I’m very excited to see how this venture will evolve. While I don’t expect to revolutionize the game, I think this idea will help improve your golf game. I’ll be posting regular feeds on a variety of golf related topics. If you see the same value in PTR Labels as I do, please share with your friends and family. Feel free to leave any comments or suggestions too!

I returned to Chicago from South Florida nine years ago where I ended my pursuit of playing on the tour. After apprenticing in the PGA program and playing several mini tours over the course of four years, I came home and I reflected often about ‘what could I have done differently?’ to see better results on the course. I had all of the physical tools: I had the support of family and private sponsors; I put in a lot of practice time; I had the help of a swing coach; and I even had the support of an incredible golf facility and staff through my employment at the Polo Club of Boca Raton. But it wasn't enough. I've come to the conclusion that the biggest obstacle to seeing better results was my mind. I was too hard on myself and I couldn't block out all of the distractions taking place in my head. Ultimately, I was my own worst enemy.

This isn't unusual for most golfers. Having ‘fun’ notwithstanding, the goal for all of us is to play better golf. No surprise there, right? But to accomplish this goal, the largest emphasis is usually placed on improving your swing. Mental golf techniques and other positive reinforcement tools are usually ignored in favor of advancing a player’s physical approach to the game. There are so many mental challenges golfers encounter before every shot. Think about it. How long would the list be if you wrote down all the things that made golf hard? It’s overwhelming and there’s no shortage of golf improvement books available to us. Most sports psychologists will tell you that part of the solution to maximizing your full potential and blocking this negativity requires that you train your mind. I believe that the regular use of one or two positive words, or thoughts such as: “I Will”, “Believe” or “I Can”, will help you build a sound foundation and approach to the game.

It’s officially spring...and with the excitement of the golf season and the Masters right around the corner, there is reason to believe that this is the year!
